Donald Ross

About Donald Ross

Donald Ross was born in Dornoch, Scotland, in 1872 and went on to design or rework hundreds of courses in North America before he died in 1948. His base was Pinehurst, North Carolina, and most of his clients were in the Northeast and the Southeast.

This page gathers the courses credited to him that still exist as playable golf courses. It is deliberately wide: some are famous championship venues, some are municipal courses, and many are private clubs that most golfers will never see from the inside.

396 courses are listed (383 in the United States and 13 in Canada). 313 are confirmed by at least two sources; 83 rest on one source, or the sources disagree about whether the course still exists or was heavily redesigned. Most are original designs; a few are redesigns or renovations, and some rest on attribution alone.
